We all know that high-power laser diodes are not cheap, and for the cutting industry, high-power laser diodes are indispensable. So, what is the price of this type of laser diode? What are the advantages of laser diodes compared to LEDs?

Laser diodes have high photoelectric conversion efficiency, and material structure optimization (such as multiple quantum wells) can increase efficiency to 20-40% or higher


Although LEDs are more efficient than incandescent bulbs, their overall conversion efficiency is usually lower than that of laser diodes.


4. Application specificity


Laser diodes are highly suitable for applications that require high beam quality, long-distance transmission, or high energy density, such as fiber optic communication, laser printing, distance measurement, material processing, medical cutting, etc


LED is more widely used in daily lighting, indication, screen display, decoration and other scenarios that do not require high beam quality.


5. Differences in Principles and Technical Foundations


Laser diodes are based on stimulated radiation mechanism and use optical resonant cavities to generate coherent laser output; Mirror like double heterostructures typically composed of high refractive index materials


LEDs mainly rely on spontaneous emission and have a simple structure, but their light output is incoherent and has strong scattering properties, making it difficult to focus energy
