Like our common metropolitan area network, local area network, and some short-distance optical fiber links, 1310nm laser diodes are basically used. When this wavelength is transmitted in optical fiber, the dispersion is relatively small, that is to say, the signal is not easy to be stretched or distorted, and the transmission is fast and stable. Especially in the range of tens of kilometers, its cost performance is very high, no amplifier is needed, and the signal can be maintained well.


In addition to communication, 1310nm laser diode also has its own position in industry and medical treatment. For example, an optical fiber sensor system can be used to monitor parameters such as pressure, temperature and strain.


In fact, many medical devices also use 1310nm light source, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is the kind of equipment for fundus examination. The light penetration at 1310nm is moderate, not as shallow as visible light, and not as easily absorbed by water as at 1550nm, so deeper tissue layers can be seen. Generally speaking, 1310nm laser diode is a very "stable" band, and it can find a suitable position for communication, sensing and medical detection. When we choose products, we often balance the wavelength selection according to the distance, environment and system requirements. 1550nm is suitable for long distance, 850nm is suitable for short distance and high speed, while 1310nm is in the middle, with balanced performance and high reliability.
