The 635nm or 650nm red laser diode is generally used in the level meter, which is high in brightness, clear to the naked eye and cheap and durable. The laser emitted by the diode is originally a very thin beam, but such a thin light can only illuminate a point, and it is impossible to turn it into a line. At this time, it is necessary to rely on a cylindrical lens or an optical prism to "pull a point into a line". That's how the straight line you see is formed.
This piece generally has two ways:
First, pendulum automatic leveling (more common)
The laser beam path is fixed on a cavity with a pendulum. As long as the instrument is not tilted too much, the pendulum will come down vertically and stabilize the beam path in the horizontal or vertical direction.
Second, electronic automatic adjustment
This one is more advanced. It uses an acceleration sensor and an inclination sensor, which is a bit like gravity sensing in a mobile phone. The laser position is fine-tuned by a motor.
This kind of equipment is more stable and more resistant to falling on the site with strong vibration. The disadvantage is that it is expensive.
