South Korea's LG Innotek has said that its 305nm UVB wavelength LED, supplied by German private company Laser Components GmbH, can generate 110 mW from a single transmitter.
Laser Components USES these UVB leds in the 6060 single chip series and the four-in-one diode housing 6868 series. The four diodes together provide 300 mW or higher output. Laser Components pointed out that it can also provide leds with the same output power level as UVC with a wavelength of 278 nm.
Notably, ultraviolet radiation stimulates fluorescence, which can be used in many analytical applications, including fluorescence microscopy. In this area, due to its unique advantages, ultraviolet LED began to increasingly replace the mercury bulb as a source of radiation. Small, long-lived leds do not require long preheating or explosion protection, and do not require sophisticated electronic ballasts. In addition, LG Innotek says the use of uv leds will become more widespread as power levels continue to improve.
